Kevin Cristino is the leader of the 125 class. On the podium also Lorenzo Macoritto, the rookie Gianluca Facchetti and the young talent Pietro Scardina. 3rd position for World Champ Jane Daniels, while her teammate Jed Etchells permanently closes in the top 10.
Andora (SV), March 5th, 2023
The 2023 season started in the right gear for the Fantic Racing Enduro teams during the 1st round of the Assoluti d'Italia, staged between the sea and the mountains of Andora (SV), in the presence of a large crowd and unseasonably warm weather.
The Moto Club Alassio, assisted by track inspector Mario Rinaldi, designed a technical race divided into four special stages to be repeated thrice daily, for a total of twenty-four throughout the weekend, starting from the scenic paddock, on the waterfront and suitable for the first of the two 2 km cross-tests, right on the beach.
The Extreme, over 3 km, was of a high standard on the rugged, rocky terrain in the Ligurian hinterland. The second cross-test, over 2.5 kilometers long, was run along a classic flat webbed course. Finally, the weekend ended with an Enduro Test, over seven minutes long, in a forest full of natural obstacles.
Kevin Cristino makes team manager Simone Albergoni happy. The Fantic Racing team rider, winning both race days, returns home as a total points leader in the 125 class.
Good performance for Valentino Corsi, who paid for a mistake while fighting for the podium.
Lorenzo Macoritto has already settled in on the new XE 300: in his first race on his bike, he finished second overall in the 300 class.
Gianluca Facchetti was unfazed in his enduro debut, riding the Fantic XEF 250. The nr 50 amazed teams and insiders by twice finishing third in the Junior class.
Albin Norrbin proves that bad luck is always watchful: the Swedish finished Sunday morning with a swollen knee. Nevertheless, team manager Simone Albergoni preferred not to risk his rider, who will undergo extensive medical checks tomorrow to assess the extent of the injury.
Franco Mayr, team manager of the JET Fantic Racing team, can also be satisfied.
Jane Daniels, the Women Enduro world champion, took the third step on the podium. For her, a second and a third place in the first fight with rivals for the world title.
Good performance by Jed Etchells, who closes the two days in Liguria in the top 10. For nr 47, two ninth places in the Absolute and two sevenths in the Foreigner class, where the other Fantic world champion, Harry Edmondson, also raced. He brought home nineteenth and fourteenth place in his first race riding the Fantic XEF 250.
In the 125 class, there were two Fantic bikes to get on the podium: right after Cristino came Pietro Scardina, a young offroad prospect of Tony Specia's Fantic Racing JR Team. Really a good test for the 17-year-old from Treviso, who, throughout the weekend, raced without any fear, showing good skills in both technical and fast parts.
After this first test, the Fantic Racing Enduro team riders are expected to participate in the second round of the Assoluti d'Italia di Enduro, scheduled for March 18 and 19 in Grado (GO).
Lorenzo Macoritto: "I'm finally back to racing! After a long injury and a month since my finger fracture, I am happy to have collected a second and a third place on my debut in the 300 class and on the Fantic XE 300."
Kevin Cristino: "I am happy to have won both race days in the 125 class. This year I will try to confirm last year's title!"
Gianluca Facchetti: "Not a bad start! I got on the podium on both days. But the most important thing for me is to have learned something and gained experience on the XEF 250."
Jane Daniels: "I come back from Andora with a second and a third place. I am satisfied. I was able to compare myself with the girls who will fight with me in the world championship."
Jed Etchells: "A good race weekend, with some good results in the specials, especially in the Absolute. Now we must focus on getting to the top at the world championship premiere."
