Fantic’s Bonacorsi and Italy close out iconic MXoN in the Top 6

The 78th edition of the FIM Motocross of Nations brought an unforgettable season for the Fantic Factory Racing MXGP team to a close, with Andrea Bonacorsi taking sixth place with Team Italy aboard the Fantic XXF 450.

With Glenn Coldenhoff ruled out of action following an unfortunate crash in the MXGP qualifying race, Andrea Bonacorsi was the sole Fantic rider tackling the spectacular Ironman Raceway on Sunday, in front of a passionate crowd of Motocross fans from all over the world. Proudly representing Team Italy in the Open class, “Bona” had delivered an encouraging performance in Saturday’s qualifying heat, battling inside the top 5 for most of the race before crossing the line in sixth.

In Sunday’s MX2-Open race, Bonacorsi had his starts dialled in aboard the Fantic XXF 450 once again, and even though he didn’t have the ideal line into the first corners, he managed to emerge inside the top 10. Pushing hard until the end, the 22-year-old Italian brought home sixth in his first moto of the day.

With very limited time between the two races, Bonacorsi faced a tougher challenge in his final outing with the MXGP and Open class riders on track, particularly as he was dealing with stomach pain. That didn’t stop him from giving his all for his country, crossing the line in 15th to help Italy secure sixth in the Team standings.

In the individual overall classification, “Bona” also finished sixth in the Open class – adding another solid result to a successful season, after completing his first full year in the premier class eighth overall in the World Championship standings, and also securing his first MXGP podium earlier this year.

Andrea Bonacorsi:

“It is always an honour to represent my country, and I had a pretty good weekend here in the US. I was feeling strong in Saturday’s qualifying race and in Race 1. My start was good again in Race 2, but I felt right away that something was wrong with my stomach – I almost felt like throwing up and had to manage my energy levels. Despite this, it was a good weekend and a nice way to close out a positive season. We have to be really happy with the progress we made in my first full MXGP season, and I would like to thank the whole Fantic Factory Racing MXGP team and everyone at Fantic for their amazing support throughout.”
