Canet shines in Indonesia: from P21 to P3, Baltus secures strong fourth place

Fantic Racing shines at Mandalika: Canet climbs 17 positions from P21, while Baltus fights back to the top 5 after a tough start.

The Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika International Circuit ended with two outstanding results for the Fantic Racing team.

Aron Canet delivered a spectacular performance, pulling off an extraordinary comeback. Starting from 21st on the grid, the Spaniard gained 17 positions in just eight laps. Already in the points after the opening lap, Canet moved into the top 10 by lap 6 and reached the top 5 by lap 8, eventually taking fourth place with a consistently strong pace. In the second half of the race, he closed the gap to Guevara in the battle for the podium, finishing just short but showcasing great determination.

Barry Baltus also produced a solid race. Despite a difficult start that dropped him to 15th, the Belgian responded with grit and focus. By mid-race he had climbed back to seventh, and continued his charge to secure fifth place at the checkered flag—a result that underlines his strength and consistency despite the physical challenges he faced over the weekend.

Thanks to the strong results of both riders, Fantic Racing extends its lead in the team standings, now 30 points clear with only four races remaining in the season. The next round will take place in two weeks at the Australian Grand Prix in Phillip Island.

Aron Canet: "It was a tough weekend, but today we had an amazing race. We worked hard to achieve this result, and I want to thank the entire team for their constant trust and support.”

Barry Baltus“I’m happy with fifth place, even if a bit disappointed because I wanted more. After Friday afternoon, I never expected to finish here, but we showed we were one of the strongest on pace. I really enjoyed passing riders during the race, and with this rhythm we could have been on the podium. After such an intense weekend, with three days of almost no food, we can still be satisfied. Now it’s time to recover and get 100% ready to go for the first win of the season.”

Roberto Locatelli, Team Manager: “It was a great Sunday. However, our riders finished “only” fourth and fifth mainly due to an unfavorable qualifying session, as their race pace was clearly podium-worthy. We made significant progress that we’ll aim to put into practice starting Friday in Australia.”
