Third podium of the season for the Belgian rider, solid sixth for Canet who retakes the lead in the riders’ championship. Fantic Racing Lino Sonego remains first in the team standings.
Fantic Racing Lino Sonego delivered another strong result in the Moto2 World Championship, wrapping up the Aragón GP with a double top-six finish. Barry Baltus claimed an impressive third place – his third podium of the season – while Aron Canet secured sixth, scoring crucial points to reclaim the top spot in the riders’ standings. Baltus, starting from the front row, took control of the race from lap 2, setting an incredible pace and leading for over three quarters of the race. He eventually crossed the line in third, capping off a mature and determined performance that solidifies his growing status in the championship fight. Aron Canet also made a solid start from fourth on the grid, climbing positions early and staying with the leading pack. A less-than-perfect feeling in the final laps denied him a chance to fight for the podium to the end, but he remained in the mix until the closing stages and finished sixth – enough to move back into the lead of the Moto2 championship. Importantly, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego also holds onto the top spot in the team standings, underlining the strength and consistency of the entire squad. This year’s Aragón race was notably quicker than last season’s – over 40 seconds faster – highlighting both the competitiveness of the field and the progress made by the team. The next round is a special one: the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, the home race for Fantic Racing. With the support of the local fans and high motivation, the team is ready to chase another standout performance in two weeks’ time.
Barry Baltus:
"I am really happy with this weekend. I was consistent in every session and, like I said before the race, my goal was to lead a race. It was the first time I found myself at the front, and it was a bit stressful, but I think I handled it well. I led for over three quarters of the race and at one point I thought, ‘maybe today is the day’. But the pace behind was really strong, and in the end I had to settle.
It was a really fast race and I’m happy to be back on the podium. Of course, the feeling is a bit less emotional than the first times—it’s my third podium of the season—so yes, I’m happy, but I want more: third place isn’t enough anymore. The team did an amazing job and I can’t wait for the next race."
Aron Canet:
"I am happy to be back at the top of the championship standings—it’s an important milestone that shows how consistent our work has been. But to be honest, I expected more from this race. I thought I’d have a better feeling with the bike and be able to fight for the podium right until the end.
Still, we picked up some crucial points, and most importantly, I understood what we were missing to stay up front in the final laps. Now I’m looking forward to the Mugello round: it’s the home GP for the Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team, and I want to arrive there ready to give it everything. It’s going to be a special race, and we want to be true protagonists."
Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team Manager:
"It was a great Sunday. I can only be satisfied—Barry led the race flawlessly and once again showed he’s one of the key contenders this season. With this podium, he closes the gap in the overall standings—still fourth, but now very close to the top three. We also held onto the lead in the team standings, which gives us even more motivation.
As for Aron, it was a tough race. We expected to be closer to the podium, especially in the second half, but we couldn’t quite take that final step to fight for the top three. The potential was there—as shown by the fact that we were in the battle until just a few laps from the end. We just need to fine-tune a few details to come back even stronger. Now we get ready for Mugello, our home Grand Prix—it’s going to be a special weekend with the full support of our fans. We want to enjoy the atmosphere and, most of all, have fun on track."
