Termas de Rio Hondo, April 2nd, 2023
In a wet race, reduced to 14 laps due to weather conditions, Celestino Vietti takes a while to get into the game. When he starts to get a series of fast laps, it’s finally too late to reach the front group. After signing the second fastest lap, with two laps to go, he crossed the finishing line in the thirteenth position, precisely his number.
Borja Gomez closed twenty-first. This was the rain baptism for the Spanish rookie, who started from the 26th position on the grid due to the crash during his qualifying.
It’s never easy to start from the back; doing it with rain complicates things. However, the young Spanish preceded some riders, and that’s positive.
Celestino Vietti: "We ended this weekend with ups and downs. We know that we can be fast, but now we need to take the positive feelings of this race and try to do better the next one.
I’m a bit concerned because I wanted to finish the race better. What makes me mad is that I was really fast in the last part of the race. I still struggle in the first laps, and I need to understand how to be fast at the beginning of the race, too, especially in wet conditions.”
Borja Gomez: "We continue to improve session after session. Today's race was not easy, but we are happy with the progresses achieved. We have to solve some details to improve the grip of the rear tire, but we are on the good way to doing that; now, let’s look forward to the race in America."
