Sepang: Vietti slides fighting for the podium, Casadei 21st

Sepang, November 12, 2023

The Malaysian Grand Prix took place at the Sepang International Circuit.

After starting in second position thanks to an excellent qualifying, Celestino Vietti had to slow down to avoid a rider who had crashed before him, losing two positions. Celestino, permanently attached to the train of the leaders, was the victim of a crash on the second lap but was able to resume the race, albeit at the back of the group. No. 13 of the Fantic Racing team continued the race for another five laps and then, on the eighth lap, was forced to return to the pits. It was a pity because Vietti had shown he could stay in front and gain some points to re-enter the top 10 in the general classification.

Mattia Casadei started from 30th position on the grid and, after eight laps, had already gained eight, moving up to 22nd. Despite his less-than-perfect physical condition and the heat, Mattia managed to interpret the race in the best possible way, passing under the chequered flag in twenty-first place.

After closing the Sepang box, the teams head to Losail for the upcoming Qatar GP.

Celestino Vietti: "I am so sorry. We had a chance to bring home a good result. The asphalt had little grip, and at that point, other riders crashed, one right after me, and luckily, he did not hit me. Next weekend, we will be back on track again, and that's what we need to make up for it now!"

Mattia Casadei: "I managed to make up positions, which is a positive aspect, but I know I still have room for improvement. I still have to work, but that doesn't frighten me; on the contrary, it is an incentive to work hard, starting as early as next weekend at Losail!"
