Le Mans, 14th May 2023
The Bugatti circuit at Le Mans was the scene of the French GP, archived as the 1000th MotoGP race.
The Moto2 race saw two starts following the interruption due to the crash of some riders at 'La Chapelle' during the second lap when Celestino Vietti was in the top 10 group and had registered the fastest lap. On the other hand, Borja Gomez was at the back, having started from the pits due to a problem during the formation lap.
Vietti got off to an excellent second start, immediately gaining a position and putting himself in pursuit of the leaders. The Fantic Racing rider managed his race well, resisting the attacks of his rivals and increasingly shortening the distance from the first three. In the end, came fourth place and 13 points.
A good performance will surely boost his confidence as he heads into the next race, the GP of Mugello.
Gomez could make the second start from the grid. His first race at Le Mans saw him pass under the chequered flag in 23rd position.
The Fantic Racing team will be back on track over the weekend of 9-11 June, with the Italian GP at Mugello.
Celestino Vietti: "It was a great race, just a pity for a small mistake at the start. We had an excellent pace, leading to the best result. The bike is going well; we made a big step, especially in the race's early stages. However, I am a bit disappointed because the podium was very close".
Borja Gomez: "We had a bit of bad luck with a small technical problem during the formation lap. The team fixed the bike quickly, allowing me to participate in the race, so I would like to thank my whole team for their excellent work. After the red flag, I battled with the small group on the restart, and we got more experience on a historic track. I can't wait to get to Italy for the Mugello GP!"
