Weather slowed down Vietti and Gomez in the Argentina GP FP

Uncertain weather conditions limited Fantic Racing riders in FP1, while at the end of FP2, a track limit cancelled a great lap by Vietti.

Termas de Rio Hondo (ARG), March 30th, 2023

Today, it was supposed to rain on the Argentinian circuit of Termas de Rio Hondo during Moto2™, and, indeed, a few drops of rain tricked the eye and the setup choice. This results in grip decline and riders’ slowdown in search of the best time that remains 1.42.547, signed last year by Aldeguer, while the fastest lap in the race belongs to our Celestino Vietti, 1.42.828 in 2022.

Today the rider from Cirié got 1.44.121, almost one second far from the best time, and closed sixteenth. Honestly, it would have gone better if his last lap hadn’t been cancelled for having put the wheels on the green in the last intermediate time, and we would be here telling another story. Set up to improve after the first free practices day but also the awareness to do better.

Borja Gomez, the team’s rookie, is 25th, 2s from the top. The rider from Murcia used the first free practices day to learn a track he never saw before.

Celestino Vietti“We started the weekend in a good way, working on the base of last year. Unfortunately, I made a mistake in the last lap, I touched the green, and my lap was canceled; that is a shame because I could have directly reached Q2. We still need to improve the last sector because I struggle the most. The mixed track conditions didn’t help today; now we will analyze the data and try to improve for tomorrow.”

Borja Gomez“The first day here in Argentina has been positive, I really like the track, and we are working step by step to improve my feeling with the bike. We still need to work for tomorrow, and there’s the potential to achieve a good qualifying. I still struggle a bit with the lack of grip on the rear tire, but I am sure we’ll find a solution for tomorrow.”
