Canet just off the podium in P4, bad luck for Baltus

Fantic Racing Lino Sonego retains Moto2 Team Championship lead thanks to Aron Canet’s strong points haul at the British GP.

Another thrilling Sunday for Fantic Racing Lino Sonego, as the team once again demonstrated their strength in the highly competitive Moto2 World Championship – despite a bittersweet outcome at Silverstone. Aron Canet delivered a standout performance, finishing just off the podium in fourth, while teammate Barry Baltus was taken out early after an unlucky contact on lap three that ended his race early.

After securing a brilliant pole position on Saturday, Canet launched cleanly off the line and controlled the pace from the front for most of the 17-lap race. The Spanish rider led the front group with authority, managing a high race rhythm in a six-rider freight train that gradually thinned to four in the closing laps. Heading into the final sector of the final lap, Canet was still in control, but a late attack saw him slip to second – and in the heat of trying to retake the lead, he was passed by two more riders, crossing the line in P4. A tough result to swallow, but one that still delivers valuable championship points, putting him just 3 points behind the standings leader.

It was a frustrating end to the weekend for Barry Baltus, who arrived at Silverstone off the back of two consecutive podiums and was eyeing another strong result. After a solid launch from seventh on the grid, the 21-year-old Belgian was matching the pace of the leaders when contact with another rider on lap three caused a crash and forced him to retire. Despite the DNF, Baltus once again demonstrated impressive speed and consistency throughout the weekend.

With the 13 points secured by Canet, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego holds firm at the top of the Moto2 Team Championship standings. The team now shifts its focus to the next round in Aragón in two weeks’ time, heading to Spain with confidence and determination to convert their undeniable potential into more top-tier results.

Aron Canet:

The result is still a positive one, but I can’t be fully satisfied considering the great race we had. Today, we had everything it took to win. I gave 100%, and I am proud of that. Maybe I could have settled for second place, but it is easy to say that afterwards. Overall, I am happy with the weekend and the race. Now it’s time to focus on Aragón.”

Barry Baltus:

“For sure, this was not the race we wanted for today. Sometimes racing is like this. I am happy that I am feeling good and I am ready for the next one. It is still disappointing, for me there was no space to pass there. I was unlucky to crash. Now focus on Aragón where we will have another chance to get on the podium.”

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team Manager:

“It was still a solid race. We are fighting for a championship, and we know it is a long and unpredictable season. We go home with an important fourth place from Aron. Unfortunately, Barry was unlucky in the incident that led to his crash. The work done by the team throughout the weekend was more than positive. We will head to Aragón with the same determination to stay on top of the Team World Championship standings.”
