Canet second, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego again on the podium

The Spaniard secures another podium after a tactical and intelligent race, while Baltus was forced to retire despite a strong start. The team remains championship leader.

The Moto2 race at the historic TT Circuit Assen delivered another strong result for the Fantic Racing Lino Sonego team, thanks to a second-place finish by Aron Canet, who continues to be one of the key players in the 2025 championship.

Canet got off to a great start, taking the lead on the opening lap and holding it for most of the race. He managed the pace and pressure with maturity. With two laps to go, aware of the challenge defending in the final sector of the track, Aron chose to let his rival Moreira through, aiming to study him and launch a final attack on the last lap. Unfortunately, a gear that didn’t engage properly caused a jolt that made Aron hit his windscreen with his helmet, breaking it. This unexpected incident cost him the speed needed to complete the decisive move. Still, it was a high-level performance that earned him important points in the title fight, especially finishing ahead of his main championship rival.

It was an unlucky race for Barry Baltus. The Belgian rider made a solid start and completed both long lap penalties perfectly, showing excellent race pace. Unfortunately, a crash on lap 7 ended his comeback and forced him to retire. A real shame, as the potential for a top result was clearly there. Barry will have his chance to bounce back in two weeks at the German GP.

Thanks to the points collected by Canet, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego maintains its lead in the team standings, confirming itself as one of the season’s main contenders.

It was also a memorable weekend for the fans, with over 200,000 spectators attending the event, creating a fantastic atmosphere worthy of Assen’s legendary history.

See you at the Sachsenring!

Aron Canet:

"It was an intense race, especially in the early laps and during the continuous battle with Moreira. I didn’t make a mistake in the final laps – it was a strategic choice to let Moreira through and study him. Unfortunately, six laps from the end, I had a problem which caused my windscreen to break. That made me lose speed on the straight and compromised my final attack.

Despite that, the feeling with the bike has improved a lot compared to the last races. We’re getting closer to the level we had at the end of last season. I’m happy to have finished ahead of Gonzalez: the championship is still long, and the goal is to collect as many points as possible before the Asian tour. Now it’s time to rest a bit at home with my girlfriend and friends, and then I’ll get back to training in the gym and with crossfit to be ready for the German GP."

Barry Baltus:

"I just want to say sorry to the team for the mistake –  it was my fault. I had been fast all weekend, so we’ll focus on the positives and look ahead to the next GP to improve. It’s a shame because with my pace we could have easily finished in the top 10. Thanks to the team for their hard work… see you next time!"

Roberto Locatelli – Team Manager:

"It was a race with two sides. On Barry’s side, he made a good start and handled the two long lap penalties well. Unfortunately, when he rejoined, he was maybe a bit too eager to recover positions and made a mistake under braking. Thankfully he’s okay. Our focus now is on building a better weekend in Germany – we’ll need to approach every session seriously from Friday to build momentum for a strong race.

On Canet’s side, the outcome is positive. He led most of the race, starting strong and taking control early on. He avoided unnecessary fights with Moreira to prevent others from joining the battle for the win. Second place is a very important result for the championship. It’s just a shame about the windscreen issue, but Aron did a great job managing the situation."
