Progress for Cardelus, positive news on Canet’s recovery

Xavi Cardelus scored his best result of the season so far, finishing the Spanish GP in Jerez just outside the points in P17. As for Aron Canet, there is more encouraging news regarding his comeback.

In front of nearly 300,000 fans across the three days of the Spanish GP, Fantic Racing came close to the points with Xavi Cardelus who crossed the finish line in 17th after a great effort, only 1.4 sec off P15.

Aron Canet’s weekend was cut short after his fast get off in Practice 1 on Friday, forcing the winner of the Portuguese GP to sit out his first home race of the season due to a peroneal malleolus fracture in his left foot. Canet underwent successful surgery in Barcelona on Saturday. He has already been discharged from the Hospital Universitari Dexeus and has his sight set on a comeback at the French GP in Le Mans (10-12 May).

Xavi Cardelus:

“I am happy with today’s outcome, we showed a great pace and made steps forward compared to the previous races. I also felt good battling with other riders and had a lot of confidence with my bike. We were really close to score our first points of the season. Now we have to continue on this way in order to get even better results soon.”

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager:

“It was a strong performance by Xavi Cardelus. We worked well with him since the beginning of the season. Sometimes his progress was maybe a bit overshadowed by Aron Canet’s great results but here in Jerez, Xavi’s progress became very clear. He was in the fight for the points, eventually finishing in P17 but we are still very happy with it. As for Aron, he is already walking and he sent us some reassuring messages. Luckily, the fracture was less serious than initially thought, that should allow him to return at the French GP in Le Mans without too many issues.”
